When is a sales brochure not a sales brochure?

When it’s a business card with delusions of grandeur.

Your business card is probably the smallest part of your sales kit. But that piece of cardboard can say all sorts of things about you. And evoke very different reactions, judging by the number of responses to Duane Jackson’s post on the subject.

I’ve written a lot about how copywriting can turn information into something more valuable and engaging. But Duane suggests that the business card is no place for any kind of marketing message. His view is that it should be an exercise in simplicity, not showing off.

Less is definitely more, but I don’t agree with everything he says. Why can’t the back of a business card be used if it’s well done? I also like to see a card that’s a bit different – without being gimmicky.
