10 reasons your business blog needs you now - Part I Monday September 16, 2013

Hello there. I’m your business blog. You know, that section on your website that you’ve been too busy to update for some time, maybe even for a few months. I understand. You’ve got a lot on. Or perhaps you’re not sure what you should put on your blog as part of your copywriting approach. As your business blog, I’m here to remind me of 10 important reasons why your business – and your copywriting strategy – need me right now:

1. Your unique resource

Too busy to blog for your business? Not sure where blogging fits into your copywriting strategy? Let’s take a different view. Imagine a body of unique content designed around your expertise, your voice and what’s important to your customers. Think about having a long-standing collection of articles that makes a statement about your knowledge of your field, but which also answers a lot of the questions your customers ask you. Now imagine you can link to that content in your social media, in your emarketing, in your comments on other people’s blogs etc….That’s your blog, when it’s done with a long-term view as part of your overall copywriting approach.

2. Your SEO

There are still some people out there who believe that you can create a quick SEO fix without looking at your actual online content or overall copywriting approach. There are some that think you can use online content to play tricks with your SEO. But the Google Panda changes are showing up those game players for what they are. In contrast, Google increasingly rewards sites with regularly updated relevant content as part of a strategic copywriting plan. The key word about keywords is relevant. Your business blog lets you continually update your site with fresh, engaging and relevant content that the search engines will love. Want better SEO? Don’t neglect your blog. Here are two more thoughts to ponder on: websites with blogs have 434% more indexed pages on the internet. Another statistic suggests that once you write 21-54 blog posts, blog traffic generation increases by up to 30%.

3. Your expert voice

Your business blog doesn’t just need your content. It needs your voice. This means that instead of sharing impersonal news, you enhance it with your views. Plus, your copywriting plan will benefit overall. The world doesn’t need any more generic information. It needs your inside view of your industry, hints and tips, updates on upcoming trends…or simply what’s interesting with your business – and crucially, how it matters to your customers. What’s more likely to stay in your mind, the website with factual blog content or the blog which demonstrates what is different and special about a business? Your unique voice is an important part of your total copywriting plan.

4. Destination website

Consistent, engaging blog writing can convert your website into a destination of choice for your potential customers. Now is a great time to build this into your copywriting plan. By consistently creating content for your business blog, you can encourage people to click through and read what you have to say. Done right, your blog can take on a life of its own and add a great deal more value to your copywriting approach and online presence. The long-term benefits are great with 37% of marketers seeing blogs as the most valuable form of content marketing.

5. Leads, leads, leads

Hands up who wants more business leads! A clear copywriting strategy means that your business blog won’t miss out on the opportunities created by a good blog – small businesses with blogs generate 126% more leads.
