Wait a minute – I’m not a restaurant writer. And over-the-top, high faluting writing of the above kind doesn’t really suit Perkins Restaurant. Yes, it is tucked away in a beautifully converted Victorian railway station in picturesque Plumtree, just outside Nottingham. And yes – they do serve gorgeous classic and modern European food in an unpretentious, easy going atmosphere. Ok, they also smoke their own food, (using produce so local it’s from the field next door), in their very own smokehouse. And it’s true that people (including those food awards experts) have been going on about Perkins for many years. But that’s still not going to turn me into a gushing foodie reviewer type. Honest (but they will be getting my vote in the 2008 Nottingham Restaurant Awards).
