Could this new technology make you a better writer? 28 September 2010

Imagine software that knows what you’re going to say before you do. Or corrects your mistakes as you make them. I’m not talking about predictive (or as I call it, prescriptive) texting, but a tool to help people write. AIType is the latest of these types of writing resources to come out. The programme is at beta stage and I’m still waiting to hear about my registration so I can give it a try. The software has all kinds of language-orientated features, but sounds as if it could have some use for non-native speakers of the English language, rather than being a resource for the process of writing copy. Like predictive testing, I think it would take the creativity out of finding the right words.
