Five little reasons for a big voice 7 May 2009

Ok, no Susan Boyle-related comment here and no tips on projecting like Pavarotti, either. So how does a strong voice make for good business?

They know you
Do you remember the brochure that talked on and on and on…or the website that shared every single detail of a company’s life history on the home page? Exactly. A strong voice means content with a clear message.

They understand you
Detail can dazzle or overwhelm. Does your copy spell out the important stuff in the right way? Are you showcasing your technical knowledge – or actually speaking their language?

They trust you
Credibility is even more important during the credit crunch. Research shows that people really do view a company more negatively when they see it written up with typos and grim grammar. As somebody said to me only yesterday, “If a company can’t even get their communications right, why on earth should I trust them?”.

They recognise you
Loud and clear or quiet as a mouse? A strong voice can help you stand out. Direct, engaging copy distinguishes you from your competitors.

They respond to you
Is your message going in one ear and out the other? Say it loud and encourage people to get in touch. We all respond to a powerful voice.

How could a bigger voice get you more in tune with your customers?
