Can a widget work your copy? 12 October 2010

Writing. It’s all about choices. Is it ‘there’ or ‘their’? Should it be ‘mean time’ or ‘meantime’? Well if you’ve ever wondered which words to choose, here’s a handy little online gizmo to give you some answers. Now you can use other people’s searches to proof read your writing, with help from a new online gadget called Phrase.In.
Searching for answers?
A couple of weeks ago I looked at AIType. Phrase. In is another tool to help with writing and editing copy. It’s a bit of an odd concept, (effectively applying popularity to demonstrate the accuracy of content), but I like how easy it is to use.
Either/or
Even after seven plus years of copywriting for business I still get stumped by the simple things from time to time. Phrase. In is very much aimed at helping you decide between one copy option and another.
Test your words
I tried out Phrase. In using ‘in the mean time’ versus ‘in the meantime’ (taken from an email I received this morning). It was interesting to see the contrasting search stats and results.
Something extra
For me the main issue is that you have to have two options to put into the system. Phrase. In was created by someone who speaks English as a second language and, like AIType, I think that’s its main audience. Ultimately, I think Phrase. In is a limited, but fun addition to the writing toolkit.
