Time to innovate? 10 March 2009
Q: What do business innovation, the Chair of Channel 4 and medieval minstrels have in common?
A: They all featured as part of today’s iEXPO event at Nottingham University.
Innovation or applied creativity is big on the national and local agenda right now. Today’s event spelled out that it’s not only blue sky thinking, but grass roots stuff – and it applies to businesses both big and small in tougher times like these.
Real life case studies from some of the region’s leading businesses highlighted the value of innovation. They made it clear that an important part of the innovation-equation is communicating new approaches to customers. That means having the right kind of marketing and copy to put the spotlight on new ideas, services and products. As the speakers pointed out, innovation doesn’t have to be dramatic. But it does need to be shared in an appropriate way. Your copy can reflect the innovative difference your service makes.
And what of the medieval minstrels? A special competition brought together East Midlands-based business bodies and funders and a medieval-style marketplace created by students. All with the aim of breaking the ice, it featured music, magic tricks and people on stilts.
The innovation-fest continues until April. Look out for special events across across the East Midlands. No more medieval magic tricks. But plenty of innovation inspiration.
