Revenge of the copywriter 18 March 2009
It seeps in through the internet every day. It pours in from your TV screen. It creeps in by email… No, I’m not talking about some creature from a 50’s B movie – I’m on about information overload. Promotional overkill. Factual overspill. Okay, you get the point. The simple truth is that we all need to let people know about our services and products. But how do you cut through the drama to get your message across?
Last week I had a call from a business owner who needed a concise but compelling summary of his services for a regional business publication. This was his chance to sell to many potential clients in one A4-sized page. I soon found out he had plenty of in-depth information about his business. There was a lot of interesting detail, but no simple summary about the value of his services. With some fast work from his friendly, local copywriter, he now has one. And it’s something he can use again and again in different ways. I saw him passing it on to potential customers at an event earlier this week. No drama, no fuss. Just a straightforward happy ending.
