A first for tradition 5 January 2010

It’s 2010 and a whole shiny new year. But here are just a few clues from the past that show the new is just part of a continuing tradition when it comes to communications and copy:

A writing first
On this day in 1665 the Journal des Scavans, the world’s very first scholarly journal, was published in Paris.

A red letter first
On 6 January 1841 the first registered letters were introduced in the UK at the charge of one shilling a letter.

A world first
On 8 January 1889 the first ‘tabulating machine’ – better known as a data processing computer – was patented. (This was the beginning of a company you might have heard of, called IBM).

So you see, the new is just part of a great tradition when it comes to communications. What new ideas are you hoping to put into action in 2010?
