A look in the crystal ball 4 March 2010

Wouldn’t it be great to see into the future? If only we could move time forwards and take a look at the communications resources just around the corner. What will be available to make writing and gathering information even more interesting in the years ahead? Here are two possibilities I heard about through New Scientist.
Information that’s bang up-to-date
Writing an article or updating people about a particular issue? Tell Me More gives you only the latest news on a story, removing everything you already know! It does that by cleverly working out what you know by looking at the original article.
Likelihood of future use: sounds great, but various issues mean that this service may never be available for public use.
The blogger’s new best friend
Blogging inspiration from software? It could be an everyday way of working in the future. Blog Muse provides a list of topics for bloggers to write about based on other users’ suggestions or by matching the blogger’s profile with others. Apparently the software developed after a poll of IBM bloggers revealed that new writers find it difficult to think up ideas for their blogs. Bloggers writing on topics suggested by Blog Muse were twice as likely to receive comments and the numbers of readers increased.
Likelihood of future use: it evolved within IBM and it’s been found to offer real commercial value by increasing blog readership. “You do the math”, as they say in the US.
