A neighbourly note on copy 21 August 2009

The other day I got a note from a neighbour. Scribbled on the back of an envelope and accompanying my cat’s abandoned collar, it made me think about the power of the personal touch in copy. Here, from someone I didn’t know very well, was a message saying “Hope Cluso’s ok”. There was something thoughtful about this which turned the note into something truly neighbourly. The personal touch can transform information into something that reaches people and builds connections. It’s not the size of the gesture that matters, but its direction.
The cat is ok, too. He just fancied a change of collar.
